Reframing Aging

Reframing Aging

A Little Help, together with Volunteers of America and the Partnership for Age Friendly Communities, is hosting a seminar on September 5 aimed at fighting ageism. The official description, more details and registration information are all below, but know that the morning will be geared toward people volunteering or spending time with older adults. Sometimes we get caught up in cultural stereotypes and don't realize that we can be hurting those we want to help most by claiming "senior moments," or other things that continue stigmatizing our view of aging.

Please note that capacity for this session is 100 people and we do expect it to fill up pretty quickly. Registration is free. If you want to attend,

Register here: http://bit.ly/CTNNoco

Intergenerational Conversations - Part III

conversations photo 3.JPG

This is the third of a regular series of topic-driven roundtable conversations between young people and older adults in the community. While topics vary, discussions highlight how age impacts respective views on common issues, and how we could broaden our thinking by talking and listening to each other.

This third conversation will be about loneliness and social isolation. Most of us, no matter our age, have periods of feeling disconnected or isolated from the world around us. This discussion centers around personal perspectives of the experience itself, contributors to that experience, and ideas about how to promote and facilitate social participation.

Space is limited, but the event is open to interested conversationalists 15-21 years of age or those who are 60 or older. Coffee, tea, juice and pastries will be available.

THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR ATTENDING

  • Colorado State University Extension (map)

Senior Access Points is a Larimer County coalition that delivers education and awareness about aging-related resources and supports available to older adults and caregivers. Older adults and caregivers often don’t know where to look for aging-related resources and they may not begin their search until a crisis hits. SAP Ambassadors help to reach community residents with basic information such as the Senior Access Points website (LarimerSeniors.org) and the Office on Aging’s Options Counseling phone number (970-498-7740) so that residents know where to begin a search.

If you are interested in this training read more here.
