The Surprise Duck Eggs -by Kirsten Hartman

Imagine my surprise the other day when I found a large egg in my raised garden bed! Then the numbers keep slowly increasing. Each day the nest looks a little different after Momma Duck has been there. I have rarely seen her as she comes at night and leaves usually in the early morning. We do not live right near a pond, so she leaves to go eat. I have set out a large saucer with water in case she needs a drink when she returns to her nest. Its been great to have a research project as well as daily sightings. Yes, I will have to delay planting annual flowers and herbs. At least the chives are thriving!
